New comic day
Wednesday was my favorite day of the week, back when I collected comics regular. These days I don’t have the time or money and mostly try to keep up by reading trades, but still feel a warm feeling around Wednesday.
Ironically, Thursday is the day I dread. Back when I was 11 I had a paper route that kind of sucked. They made me roll my own papers (and buy the rubber bands) and collect fees from the customers. That was the part I hated the most. For some reason the creepiest deadbeats on the planet subscribed to the San Clemente Sun Post back in the ’70s. But the thing that sucked was every Thursday they would drop an additional 75 free papers that need to be rolled and dropped on random driveways. Really I should have been dropping them in the nearest dumpster, but was a hair too honest to do that.
My World of Warcraft (so called) life is suffering. In spite of being able to pull 9K DPS I am lowest DPS in our raid and am not getting a slot every raid night. There are some critical pieces of gear I need but can’t seem to get to drop. I have the worst loot luck. It’s funny. My friends are all surprised about my relative DPS in raids, since I usually top PUG raids, but that is the downside of being in a top end guild. Might be for the best. I can’t really play like I used to as I am spending most of my time working on my site.
I have been working on a huge order of new shirts from my friends over at Ripple Junction. I like small orders with 3-4 new shirts. I can get them done in an evening and feel really productive. This order has 21 new shirts and each one takes at least an hour to photograph, clean up, and write the content. I don’t have the inventory up yet, but of the new shirts I have added I think I like the new Reservoir Dogs is top of my list, although I keep spelling it wrong (resevoir).
I just added the Wonder Woman t-shirt category. I apologize to women for not having it sooner, but with a limited budget I have had to concentrate on men’s to start.
Disney owns Marvel, and ordering new t shirts.
So I was thinking about the fact that Disney just bought Marvel Comics lock, stock, and barrel and how much that bodes ill for the future of comic books and movies. Disney does not hesitate to change things to suite their marketing needs (hell, they forced the NHL to create a hockey team with a lame name based on a bad series of movies starring Emelio Estevez) and has a way of making everything “kid friendly” (i.e. lame). I predict Wolverine being a whole lot less likely to kill someone, or Punisher taking a more conciliatory approach to criminals. Wonder what it will do to all the Marvel t-shirts we carry?
I think what bugs me is I can’t seem to get away from Disney. I grew up in Orange County (or, as I like to think of it, Stucco Hell) and lived near Disneyland. Most of my friends worked at Disneyland at one point or another and it blew. I fell in love with Pixar movies and then Disney bought them out. Every time I turn around they are infiltrating the things I like.

Someone has a case of the Mondays
Stayed up too late last night and woke up sluggish. Our pickup missed a couple boxes and I opted to ride my bike to the post office and drop them off (gotta get some kind of exercise…). In spite of the fact that the sun was out it was kind of cold and somehow I was riding into the wind both directions. Then, on the way home, in spite of being in the sunshine I somehow got rained on. Weird. Anyway, came back to the office and found a whole slew of tech problems and a huge pile of new shirts that need descriptions. Bad karma day, which I get about every year and a half. I think my best plan is to turn off the phone, stop with the email, and just sit here at my computer working on new t shirts.
Anyway, other than that things are great. Getting ready for WonderCon, which means I need to order a lot of t shirts. I think I will be bringing posters too. So much for eating this month. LOL. Anyway, I’m trying to figure out which shirts to bring. I think it seems obvious to bring comic book tees, but I think everyone will have those. I am looking at bringing some of the more obscure shirts for the more discriminating nerd.
Anyway, I am going to sign off before I complete my bad karma day by saying something stupid. These days usually end by about 5pm, so I am looking forward to a good evening. So long.
Warhammer Saturday and Felicia Day
So I didn’t blog yesterday as I spent the whole day running a small Warhammer tournament for my friends. We were playing at Endgame, possibly the best game store I have ever seen. It was a team event, so we had all of six teams. The hardest part was pairing people up without having them repeat matches. Two people showed up with double EOTG lists, which I think is grossly overpowered in a regular list, much less a 1000 point list.
Anyway, I heard rumor this week that I might be able to get Warhammer and Warhammer 40K t shirts, thanks to Warhammer Online and Dawn of War. That would be very cool. I would probably have to create a whole new category for them, although technically they would have to start out in the video game section.
Speaking of hot nerd chicks, I hope you all realize how amazing Felicia Day is. She is the girl from Dr. Horrible’s Singalong Blog and The Guild. She is herself an avid WOW player and all around sexy nerd. By the way, expect to see Dr. Horrible shirts on my site in time for WonderCon, including the Capt. Hammer t shirt.
