Gearing up for WonderCon
Set up for WonderCon starts tomorrow, and if there’s one thing I have learned after many, many shows it’s that the early bird gets the worm/power outlet/hand truck/better space/free donut. Therefore I am dedicating tonight (after a quick Warhammer game) to packing up my t shirts and loading up the car. Most likely we are talking about a couple trips, but it should go pretty smoothly. The worst part is tying my gridwall to the roof of my car. I always feel incredibly white trash doing that.
I have a feeling that zombie t-shirts are going to be a big hit at this show, and have stocked up accordingly. Also I am doing that Zombie Prom Saturday night and want to make sure I have plenty of zombie shirts for that. Not sure how that is going to go, but could be fun.
If any of you are going to WonderCon please stop by and say hi. Also, if any of you watched V let me know how it was. I was going to go to a friends house to watch it but that fell apart. Talk to you soon.
V returns?
Not V for Vendetta (which is an insanely cool movie and one that I keep hoping to find t shirts for) but V, the tv invasion serious. I guess ABC saw what happened with Battlestar Galactica and opted to cash in.
The thing is, I don’t recall the original V as being all that engaging or interesting, and I also don’t recall ABC as having a staff of writers who know anything about science fiction. It also seems they suffer from the same moronic executive pool that Fox draws from, as some executive (head of the company or something. It think it was Stephen McPherson) opted to bury Masters of Science Fiction and cut it short. This serious could have been great.
Who knows. Maybe ABC will impress me somehow. I have my doubts. I also have issues with aliens who look like humans. All aliens should look like Alien (as seen on this shirt from the movie t shirt section) or something equally weird. If HR Giger is not involved in the design I doubt it could look good.
Anyway, I will probably watch it, but won’t go out of my way for it. Not hearing a ton on it. That being said, I think I will watch V for Vendetta tonight on DvD.
We hit 300!
T shirts, that is. I was saying at DundraCon that my goal was 300 different shirts on our site, and as of last night we are at 301. I am very excited.
Played a great game of Warhammer last night against a guy from Belgium. I am playing a list I call “the Brown Submarine.” Basically it is purposely weak in order to get some really soft games round one and two of any tournament and win through soft points. Of course that requires that I upgrade the paint considerably, but I am working on it in whatever free time I have (almost none). I also enjoy playing it in that I have to work really hard to win. It is a thinking man’s army.
Anyway, back to the t shirt grind. I am happy to say my women’s t shirt section has grown fivefold, from one to five including this gem from my movie t shirt section. I will be expanding my selection as my budget allows. That being said, I have another six new men’s shirts to work on today.
Anyway, looking forward to a good weekend. I have a few things going on for a change. I’ll talk about terrain day next post.
Having a couple of great days
So after bitching about WOW the other day I decided to just mess around a little. I ran Strat and had the very rare Baron’s mount drop for me. Happy days. I also had a great dinner last night with a friend and it was a lot of fun.
Apparently she has never watched a zombie movie, so it fall unto me to educate her on the wonders of zombie films. I think the best way to ease her into it would be with Shawn of the Dead, as it is probably the easiest one to start off with. I was really happy to get this shirt into the zombie movie t shirt section, and am a huge fan.
Anyway, raid night tonight. I might get my raid slot back by going BM but have to convince the officers it’s a good idea. We’ll see.
The irony is killing me
So I logged onto the USPS website to order some shipping labels and get my orders out in a timely manner. They ask me to fill out a quick survey and I obliged. Up until now the service has been excellent and I more or less said so. After lauding them on their survey I try to print my shipping labels and their entire website collapses. Ironic.
Makes me think there are dark powers at work in the universe, sometimes, like our good friend Cthulhu and they are actively trying to aggravate me. I know this is paranoid, but when you kill Deathwhisper 20 times and fail to see the bow that other raids are disenchanting left and right even once it encourages paranoid thoughts. Besides, I wouldn’t be so paranoid if people weren’t out to get me.
Anyway, I am more or less killing time hoping USPS gets their site fixed. I have things to do today.
Looking forward to Kick Ass
I am probably going to get crap from 100% of my friends, but I have been looking at trailers for the new movie Kick Ass and am really looking forward to it. It looks really fun. I am a big Nick Cage fan as well, and he is looking very Raising Arizona-ish in this one. I hope I am not setting myself up for disappointment, but I will definitely watch it in spite of how it’s reviewed, and will probably put shirts into my comic book t shirt section.
Of course, I loved Mystery Men, so this one will have to really suck to disappoint me.
Anyway, just got done uploading some new Star Wars shirts, including this particular gem. I love this one. Stormtroopers are so freaking cool. I’m going to be adding more girls shirts tomorrow too.
That’s pretty much it. I just wanted to comment on Kick Ass after having seen the trailers.
Evil Dead the Musical
I mentioned the other day that when Dave sent me a copy of the movie Special he also sent me a music CD. It’s the soundtrack to the Evil Dead, the Musical. I am, of course, a huge Evil Dead fan (I used to say Sam Raime fan, until I saw what he did to the last Spiderman movie. Poor Peter Parker) and own all three movies (special collectors editions, with the rubber Necronomicon cover that scream when you press the eye). Evil Dead 2 is my fav, but all three have something worth watching. For some reason, I can only find Army of Darkness shirts like this one from the horror movie t shirt section. Weird.
Anyway, I listened to the CD yesterday. It’s funny, but not great if you know what I mean. I love the soundtrack to Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog, so it’s not that I hate musical theater, but somehow it’s just not that funny. Too obvious, and way too upbeat for the Evil Dead in my less-than-humble opinion.
Anyway, it’s still funny, but it won’t make it into my regular music rotation. I am having a much better day today than yesterday. No parking tickets, no getting my ass beat in Warhammer (last night’s game was a little on the painful side), and getting a lot of work done. Good day all around.
Parking tickets suck, and a guy bought one of my favorite shirts
So I got a parking ticket tonight for being 12 inches into a red zone. I know I’m at fault but you would think that after about 8pm the meter maids would have other things to do. Oakland is hurting for cash, and has decided the best way to solve their problems is to put it’s residents in as much pain as possible.
The irony is in the movie I watched last night, Special, the main character is a meter maid. All of a sudden I have a lot less sympathy for him.
Earlier a guy was the first to buy one of my favorite shirts, Lego Leatherface from my horror movie t shirt section. I love Lego and think this is so freaking cool. Good to know there are other guys out there with good taste in t shirts. Anyway, I am mostly bitching about parking tickets on this one. I’ll do a better blog tomorrow after I’ve gotten over it.
Torchiere Torture and Special movie
So I love Torchiere lamps. You know, the ones that stand up and shoot their light at the ceiling. The light reflected off the ceiling is really nice and cuts down on shadows. My problem is I keep breaking them. I must go through two a year at least. I don’t know if they are particularly fragile (frag-ile’! It must be French!), if I treat them badly, or if I generate some kind of anti-torchiere lamp field, but they have a bad lifespan in my possession. Obviously I broke another one last night. Don’t know what I did. It just stopped working. I traded out the bulb and that didn’t make a difference. I grabbed the one I have in my bedroom, so now I am stumbling around in the dark in my bedroom. Also, it is softer than I like, so my office is now really dim.
I have a friend who uses the ones that you just have to touch to turn off and on. Those kind of creep me out, as I have to imagine you are getting some kind of electric charge when you do that. Given my luck with these demonic lamps it would not take a lot for that charge to develop into a fatal shock (the freak accident that gives the recipient the power to shoot lighting out of their hands never seems to happen to me, damn the luck) so I will stick with my standard, crappy lamps.
Speaking of getting super powers, a friend of mine sent me a copy of the movie Special and I watched it last night. It’s about a guy (comic book fan) who gets on a test program for a new drug that causes him to imagine he has developed super powers. There is a great scene where he is trying to convince his friends (who own a comic book shop) that he has powers by running through a wall. In reality he hits the wall and bounces off, but is so delusional that he is convinced he actually did it. I can’t decide if I liked it or hated it. It felt a little like a nerdier version of Fight Club. I wish it had been more popular (so good it went straight to DvD) because the Special t shirt the guy is given would fit in perfectly in my fantasy logo or movie t shirts section.
Anyway, thanks to Dave for the movie. He gave me a music CD I am going to listen to today. I’ll talk about it on my next blog.
Lego Universe, and more about NASA
So I was talking to my friend Dave this afternoon and he told me he saw yesterday’s rant about how NASA is getting gutted. His point was that they are a bunch of babies and have not pushed hard enough and I have to admit, he’s got a point. Given the amount of money we have spent on that program we should be living on Mars by now. We were on the moon 41 year ago and not done much since.
On the other hand, it’s really all we have so I guess we need to keep supporting it. Please write your senators, congressman, and the President and tell them to find some of this stimulus money for something that could help all of humanity.
He then told me he got on the Beta test for Lego Universe, the new Lego MMORP. As a screaming Lego fan and massive MMORP addict it sounds both perfect and horrible to me. I have actually backed off on playing WOW in favor of working on my site, and don’t know if I can afford to get hooked on another one. He says the game is pretty cool, and usually has a good opinion. On the other hand, he liked the Star Trek MMORP and I found it kind of boring, to be honest.
Speaking of Lego and outer space, I recently found this Lego Star Wars t shirt and put it up in my Star Wars T shirt section. I played the hell out of that game and got it to 98.7% done. I gave up once I got to the timed runs. Too frustrating to keep playing. Great time up until then, and I still bust it out when I get bored.
